Rutile is a Titanium Dioxide mineral, that can be gold, silver, red, and sometimes black. It is a distinct mineral species that can form on its own, however it is most commonly seen as mineral inclusions in Quartz crystals, and when this occurs the material is known as Rutilated Quartz. This material is extremely popular and sought after, problem is good Rutilated Quartz is hard to come by, so we don't always get it in. But here we have this beautiful specimen of a Smokey Quartz crystal partial with A LOT of golden Rutile shooting through it. Let me tell you the significance of this piece. First of all it is a Quartz crystal partial, normally when you get Rutilated Quartz it is rough chunks without any distinct crystallization (or its been polished from rough chunks), but this piece has several crystal faces which is very unique, and super awesome because its a Rutilated Quartz. Second, its Smokey Quartz, most of Rutilated Quartz that out there is in Clear Quartz, but the fact that this is smokey makes it even rarer. And finally, the Rutile is the bright and beautiful golden color, which may not be the rarest color for Rutile to come in, but it is definitely the most attractive, also the Rutile grows off of silver colored Hematite Roses, of which you can see slivers of in this piece.
