Rose Quartz is composed primarily of silica (SiO2) and is formed when silica-bearing solutions infiltrate porous rocks and sediments. The silica then becomes impregnated into the porous rock and changes the rocks into what we call Quartz. Rose Quartz is pink in color, probably cause by trace amounts of manganese or titanium. Lavender colored rose quartz has a higher level of the manganese or titanium in it. The Ancients believed that rose Quartz helped women have beautiful complexions and prevented wrinkle. It was also believed to open a person's heart so that person might receive love and give love more easily.

***Note: This free form is known as "Star Rose Quartz". This is caused by tiny inclusions of rutile that grew in the quartz crystals as they were forming causing the "star" effect. In geology, a 6 ray star is called asterism, "cats eye" stones are the same thing but with only one band. It is difficult to get the full effect of the star in photos, it does look better in person.**
