Turquoise is a copper mineral, so remaining copper ions cause the Turquoise to be blue. Iron ions are also possible of being mixed in, which make the Turquoise green. The amount of copper and/or iron ions, how they are dispersed and if there are any other matrix or minerals mixed in is what causes Turquoise to have such a wide variety of colors, some of which can only be found from a single mine. Turquoise has been a stone used by humans for thousands of years, and although most people think of the Western United States when they hear Turquoise (and the Native Americans who inhabited those regions) the truth is Turquoise comes from all over the world.
