Aragonite is a polymorph of calcite that grows mostly underwater. It has a slightly different crystal structure than calcite but they are in the same family. It has the same chemical composition as calcite however aragonite has a orthorhombic crystalline structure where as calcite has a trigonal crystalline structure. It has the hardness of 3.5-4 on the mohs scale.
