This wonderful Smokey point has a patch of lodalite on one of it sides, as well as it is loaded with phantoms! Some phantoms have layers of lodalite on the edges of the phantoms and some phantoms are in shaped forms - also crystals shaped forms. Just such a wonderful specimen to own.
Lodalite: Silicon Dioxide= a quartz that has inclusions from the chlorite family as well other minerals might be mixed in such as iron oxide, hematite, goethite and rutile.
Phantom: Most of the time it's in quartz that you can see a visible layers of overlapping crystal growth. Inner layers that can be seen are called phantoms.
Smokey/Smoky: Silicate Mineral, and the color is from a natural radiation, emitted from the surrounding rock with aluminum in it, the amount of exposure to radiation and aluminum will determine the color and clarity of each piece.
